June 8, 2008: Day 1 

Arrival:  Philadelphia, PA

June 9, 2008: Day 2 Historic Philadelphia

9:00     Independence Visitors Center (self-guided tour of exhibits)

The National Constitution Center was created by the Constitution Heritage Act in 1988. The Center is an independent, non-partisan, non-profit organization dedicated to increasing awareness about the Constitution and its relevance in Americans’ daily lives.

2:30     Walking Tour of Philadelphia “Seeing the Metropolis Close Up”  

Independence Hall

This was once the home of the United States Congress.  Independence Hall (seen from the Liberty Bell) is flanked on the right by Congress Hall. The newly formed United States Congress occupied Congress Hall when Philadelphia was the capital of the United States from 1790-1800.

  June 10, 2008: Day 3 Tour Philadelphia/ Fort Mifflin

9:45                             Betsy Ross HouseBy 1876 the building was generally recognized as the place where Betsy Ross lived when she made the first American Flag. Several of her surviving family members, including daughters, grandchildren and a niece said that this was the location of the legendary event.
10:15                           Elfreth AlleyThe Alley is a place where you can learn about what life was like for the working people that built and maintained this city during the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries.

Welcome! Christ Church, founded in 1695, is a wonderful place to explore Colonial and Revolution-Era history.  Its burial ground, which includes the tomb of Benjamin Franklin, is an authentic historic site for learning about the lives of early Americans.

The Olde Fort Mifflin Historical Society is a non-profit educational organization that promotes awareness of the historic defense of the Delaware River and the City of Philadelphia. OFMHS supports volunteers who offer living history demonstrations and provides lecturers and interpreters for many of the living history events in the tri-state area.

 June 11, 2008: Day 4  Brandywine and Valley Forge

8:30                 Depart for Brandywine and Birmingham Meeting House

                       

9-11:00            Classroom presentation and overview of Philadelphia.  Comparison by

                        PHMC Museum Educator, Mr. Mike Harris.

           

                        Time for shopping and exploring.

                        The afternoon program will consider the development of a new, regular

                        American Army as envisioned by Washington and created by Von

                        Steuben. In addition, the problems of the Quartermaster department and

the internal politics of the Revolution applied to Washington and his rivals

will be addressed.

                       

Evening: Dinner and free time to explore.

 

 June 12, 2008: Day 5                     Trenton/Princeton NJ

  9:00                 Depart for Trenton, NJ 

10:00               Washington Crossing - NJ

355 Washington Crossing-Pennington Road. Titusville, NJ 1517 (609) 737-0623 From this site, General George Washington and men of the Continental Army and militia crossed the Delaware River on Christmas night 1776 and marched to Trenton, New Jersey. There they attacked and defeated Hessian troops quartered in and around the village. This surprise attack and victory set the stage for Washington's subsequent victories at the Second Battle of Trenton and Princeton. The Crossing and the Trenton/Princeton campaign have become known as the Ten Crucial Days — a campaign that saved Washington's army from defeat, allowing them to fight another day and achieve ultimate victory.

Princeton Battlefield offers a 45 minute speaker on the 18th century, rooms with various exhibits and plenty of time for Q&A.

 June 13, 2008: Day 6             Philadelphia

9:30                 Priority Shuttle will meet the group at the hotel and drop everyone off at the Museum of Art

 10:00               Philadelphia Museum of Art As one of the largest museums in the United States, the Philadelphia Museum of Art invites visitors from around the world to explore its renowned collections, acclaimed special exhibitions, and enriching programs.

Afternoon:     Free time to explore the city Evening          Lights of Liberty Show 

Experience the Lights of Liberty Show:  A moonlit journey through Independence National Historic Park.  Re-live the American Revolution with 5-story projections and surround sound.  Hear the Philadelphia Orchestra and voices of patriots as they tell the thrilling story of America’s fight for freedom, as it happened, where it happened.

  

June 14, 2008: Day 7
